Immersed apparent mass: For each specimen, suspend the specimen by a wire to immerse it in water and determine the immersed apparent mass of the specimen after conditioning. This mass must not include the wire or other materials.

Saturated mass: Remove the samples from the water. Surface-dry the specimens by wiping with a towel on all faces and determine the mass.

Place six samples on the grid in the MgNO3 box and six others on the grid in the NaCl box.

Directly remove the samples from the box and record the mass of each sample, along with the time and relative humidities at specified intervals as outlined in 8.5.

       Weighing times:

       Week 1 – once a day

Week 2 – twice a week (beginning and end of the week)

       Week 3 to week 25 – once a week.

When equilibrium is reached, oven-dry the samples and record the mass (see Oven-Dry Mass, ASTM C642).
