The test method consists of monitoring the intensity of electrical current passing through a cylindrical test specimen during a 7-day testing period. An appropriate DC potential is maintained constant across the specimen by an electrical power supply. The upstream cell is filled with a chloride containing electrolytic solution and connected to the negative electrode while the downstream cell is filled with a base solution and connected to the positive electrode. If desired, chloride ion penetration through the specimen can be monitored by periodically analyzing the chloride content in the downstream cell.
